We had a death in the family yesterday
One of our hens went to the pearly white gates of chicken heaven*
RIP Kim
She had a good life. Plenty of fresh scraps, gardens to

Kim now leaves Kath (the chooky neck one) all by herself.
Now we ask ourselves "buy another one or send Kath off to a retirement village** and reclaim that part of our yard?"
Kath is our oldest chook. We "rescued" her from an egg farm. The egg farm man laughed at me and told me she would only lay for another few weeks. That was over 4 years ago and she still lays! She laid 2 yesterday after Kim died.
She has her off seasons when it's too cold or too hot. Problem is that she doesn't lay enough to feed a family of 6 so on top of buying chook food I still need to buy eggs.

Do you own chooks?
Should I ship her off and reclaim my garden (I'm thinking a veggie patch) or buy another hen or two??
*No we didn't kill her. She died of unkown causes. Old age maybe? We didn't eat her either.
**Retirement Village = friends who own a property and a huge big chicken coop

If you've been following me on facebook you may or may not know that I have registered for a 220km bike ride for the Perth Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2013. This is a cause close to my heart as I have lost some very special people to this horrible disease. As part of my entry I need to fund raise a minimum of $2500 to take part in the actual ride. I really hate asking for donations but I've been told that it's the only way! Do you have a spare $2? Every little bit helps. All money raised will go directly to support cancer patients and their families and all donations $2 and over are tax deductible. Thank you!!
