A tale of secrecy and one narky bank lady

The other day my bank account was looking a little sad. Ok very sad.

I decided to cheer it up a little by stopping a couple of reoccurring bill payments that I've set up. I like to be on top of all bills so I pay some money on almost every bill that we have (the ones that allow it) fortnightly so that when the actual bill arrives we owe little or nothing on it!! Huzzah!

I digress from the story...

So some bills are well in advance so I log into internet banking to "skip" them this fortnight.

Now Mr Hausfrau and I have a joint bank account but the bill payments are set up on his internet banking login.

While logged in something went wrong and I couldn't see if the bills were skipped.

I rang the bank. Even though it's my bank account too she couldn't talk to me about it as the payments are on Mr Hausfrau's log in.

Mr Hausfrau came home from work and I rang the bank again. Mr Hausfrau had her on loud speaker with the laptop in front of him

Bank lady - Can I please confirm your name and date of birth
Mr Hausfrau - Mr Hausfrau and blah blah blah
Bank lady - Can I have your internet password
Mr Hausfrau - blah blah blah

Mr Hausfrau then explains the situation.
The bank lady tells him that he can see that online and explains how but says she'll check anyway.

I start to log on to check what she was telling us and we are locked out.
The bank lady hears us talking.

Bank lady - Is that your wife trying to log in on your internet banking?
Mr Hausfrau - yes
Bank lady - That is not allowed. No one is allowed to know your log in details.
Me - I'm just typing for him while he is on the phone.
Bank lady - Am I on loud speaker?
Mr Hausfrau - yes
Bank lady (insert narky voice)- That means your wife has heard our whole conversation and heard me ask you for your password. Your account has been compromised.

WTF? Are you for real lady?

So Mr Hausfrau took her off loud speaker (our phone is loud, I can still hear everything anyway) and the call continues without anymore issues. We have access to our internet banking again and the payments had been skipped. All is well in the world again....

So obviously she was only doing her job. The call was probably being recorded and she had to say that. The first lady I spoke to wasn't so narky though!

So I ask you...

Do you know your partners bank details, PIN, passwords etc. etc. etc. or do you keep them "secret" from each other?

Surely I'm not by myself with this? Geez Mr Hausfrau and I even changed our bank card PIN numbers so they're the same so we don't have to remember too many numbers!!

Tell me we're normal!
Or was the bank lady right to chastise us???

ATTACK OF THE GREEN EYED MONSTER - or the lesser known title of "Why I'm likely to be bitchy to Mr Hausfrau in March"

By now you all know why I'm the Aussie "Hausfrau" don't you??

No?

Ok here's the low down!

Mr Hausfrau is German. I'm Australian born and bred. I'm married to him. I'm The Aussie Hausfrau.

haus·frau

Noun
  1. A German housewife.
  2. A woman regarded as *overly efficient.

*I'm pretty sure they screwed up with point 2. I'm definitely NOT "overly efficient"

Get it now? Haus is German for House. Frau is German for Wife/Mrs/Woman

Hausfrau = House Wife

Phew. I'm glad we have that sorted.

So if you follow me on Facebook you may remember a couple of weeks back I was "Sipping on French Champagne and celebrating Mr Hausfrau's awesome news"

Well the lucky bugger **won a trip to Germany through his work! Sans me!!! That part I can handle, you know, 'cause it's a "work trip" and I'm a supportive wife and all that crap. BUT while there he's taking an extra week or so off and will be off to visit MY Schwiegermutter (Mother in Law) and MY Schwiegerbruder and his family (Brother in Law) AND MY Schwiegervater and family (Father in Law) AND I'M AS JEALOUS AS ALL BUGGERY!!!

IT'S NOT FAIR GOD DAMMIT!!
*breathe*

(Yes yes, it's his family. I know. I know. But I love them like my own!)

We had plans of me meeting him over there once his "business trip" is finished but alas, it just ain't doable. Things don't line up with kids v's their Dad taking them v's school holidays v's my Mum being off work.

So off he flys in 4 weeks time off to the land of beer and pretzels. Without me. For two weeks. Without me. By himself. Without me.

I'm thinking many a fight will be picked in the lead up. By me. I'm good like that.

In the meantime I'm milking it. Most conversations start like this. "Hey honey, you know how you're going to Germany soon. Can you please (insert whatever I need/want here)"

I'm also making a list of everything I want need brought back.

1. Black Forest ham. The real Black Forest ham.
2. A million gazillion pretzels
3. German beer and wine. At least 2 cases of each.
4. Wurstsalat. Lots and lots of Wurstsalat.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.

On the positive side. Guess who gets full use of the remote control and the entire space of the king size bed for 2 weeks?? ME! It's going to be fanfeckingtastic.

Now, if I can just stop that green eyed monster from roaring so much!

Would you be jealous too??
More importantly - can you think of anything I can add to my list?

**As much as I'm super jealous I am also super duper proud of my spunky man. He won this trip because his car dealership was the 3rd best (for his brand) in the whole wide space of Australia for 2012!! Please also know that this is all written in jest. I'm not a cold hearted biatch and Mr Hausfrau read all this before it was published. Tongue in cheek people, tongue in cheek ;)

What to cook when you feel like crap! Also known as Mexicano Salsa Chicken or Slow Cooker Lucky Dip!

Autumn. She's a comin' (That's Fall for my Americano peeps or Herbst for my *ahem* fellow Krauts)

With Autumn comes the start of AFL season for PrincessBF, and the loss of my Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evenings to footy training.

This is where my old faithful slow cooker comes in handy.

With Autumn comes the onset of the cold and flu season and other crap.

So when I woke up this morning still feeling like death warmed up, knowing that Monday afternoons are now taken up with PrincessBF playing specialised Basketball for her school, I decided to break out the slow cooker early and throw together some bits and pieces to free up my evening. What better than to come home from basketball to a cooked meal!

Let's call this...... Mexicano Salsa Chicken. Yeah sounds boring but I barely have the energy to type let alone think! Oh by the way - totally doped up on antihistamines at the moment so excuse any mistakes.

Mexicano Salsa Chicken

I have no measurements - I totally just threw in what I had in the fridge and cupboard!

Chicken breast (you could use tenderloins or thighs) chopped
Tin tomatoes
Jar of Medium Salsa
Packet of mexican seasoning (only need half a packet)
1/2 red onion - chopped
Some grape tomatoes that were on the way out
1/2 a capsicum I found at the back of the fridge - chopped
2 sticks of near wilted celery - chopped
2 small carrots - sliced
Sea salt flakes and black pepper to taste

Throw it all in.

Mix.

Set and forget. 6 hours on low (you could also go 4 hours on high)

I had planned to serve it with rice. Came home from basketball to put the rice on only to find that I didn't have any!!! Doh! Not to worry, Mr Hausfrau and PrincessBF had theirs with jacket potatoes and RandomBoy and I have some pasta left over from last nights dinner.

Complements all round to the chef. That'll be me!

Do you have a slow cooker? Use it? Love it?
